Where Exploration Meets Education

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic (“Coronavirus”) resulting in the closing of all schools in New York City, we have now transitioned online to remote learning using Google Classroom. Any and all material for our class henceforth will be provided to the student via their respective hub. To keep it live, this blog has transitioned to a repository of science articles both miscellaneous and related to the material we cover.

This website is made to serve students of science, to meet their comprehension and elevate their understanding. Because the curiosity of students has always inspired me, I hope to inspire them too by engaging them with scientific reasoning and improving their understanding of the natural world. Together we will be explorers and philosophers — we will concern ourselves with the foundations, methods, and consequences of our science, with an objective to understand — and thus respect — nature and our place within it.

The curriculum will revolve around this notion. For sixth-grade’s Environmental Science studies, we will explore our relationship with Earth, with a particular focus on interdependence and climate change. For seventh-grade’s Life Sciences, we will breakdown the complexities and diversity of living things in order to understand the harmony of its systems within the ecosystem. As for Health, our students and I will be discussing the impact of and solutions to mental, social-emotional, and physical well-being in order to create a culture of bettering ourselves and empathizing with others. Throughout, there will be a particular emphasis on science literacy, critique, and the refinement of observational skills.

With a curious engagement and constant questioning, these all encompassing disciplines should and will not only prepare our students for the eighth-grade Earth Science curriculum but will lay the foundations necessary for the next generation to be future innovators and explorers. I look forward to taking this journey with our students.
